Grass Valley springs to life in Greece with first 4K UHD OB truck

Greece’s first fully equipped 4K UHD Outside Broadcast (OB) truck is hitting the road thanks to solutions from Grass Valley

Owned by Live Productions and operated by View Master Events, Greece’s first 4K UHD OB truck marks a significant advancement in Greek media production. The truck now features a full 12G UHD HDR signal chain centred on 12 Grass Valley LDX 98 cameras.

The OB truck has already been successfully deployed for a variety of live productions in the country and internationally. View Master Events manages the truck’s operations, delivering complex live broadcasts.

Grass Valley cameras were selected for their ability to deliver a consistent performance across multiple formats and frame rates. John Zarganis, CEO at View Master Events, commented, “Grass Valley’s LDX 98 cameras provide the image quality and operational versatility required for today’s demanding live production environments.”

From an engineering standpoint, the cameras’ adaptability has simplified setup and operation under tight production deadlines. This functionality makes the cameras effective regardless of whether they are covering sports, cultural events or major international broadcasts.

The LDX 98 cameras support native 4K UHD capture with high dynamic range and wide colour gamut compliance. Their support for 1.5G, 3G, and 12G workflows, plus 3X and 6X super slow motion with simultaneous live and high-speed outputs, allows the team to adapt quickly to changing broadcast needs.

The system was designed and integrated by Telmaco S.A., Grass Valley’s trusted partner. Drossos Kyriazis, COO at Telmaco, said, “This represents the first brand-new 4K camera package deployed in Greece and is a landmark for the broadcast industry in the region.”

With the truck now fully operational, Live Productions and View Master Events are preparing for upcoming national and international events. They are also exploring potential future expansions, much like the transformations taking place at the Saudi Broadcasting Authority’s facilities.
