EMG / Gravity Media sets a new standard in sustainable broadcasting

The recent deployment of the electric 19T tender vehicle by EMG / Gravity Media is a key part of the company’s green strategy, aligning technology with environmental responsibility
EMG/Gravity Media, the company behind the production of some of the world’s most-watched sports events, is breaking new ground in the UK broadcast industry by introducing the first electric vehicle of its kind to support outside broadcasts – the electric 19T tender vehicle. This vehicle is a milestone in sustainable broadcasting and will guide the further electrification of the company’s fleet of over 65 commercial vehicles.
This move builds on EMG / Gravity Media’s ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to low-carbon operations, a commitment that has already been recognised with the Digital Production Partnership’s (DPP) top Committed to Sustainability Mark award.
“This is another important step in our sustainability journey,” commented Rohan Mitchell, ESG director at EMG / Gravity Media. “By deploying this electric tender truck to support our London-based facilities deliveries, we are taking a decisive step towards reducing our environmental footprint and showcasing that cutting-edge broadcast technology and sustainability can go hand in hand.”
The Volvo FE Electric truck delivers a significant reduction in carbon footprint, producing 96% less CO2 and 98% less NOx than a Volvo FE diesel truck. Transitioning to this vehicle also benefits the driving experience with reduced noise levels.
Well-suited for urban-based productions, the truck has a range of over 200 km and a 5-tonne payload. The vehicle has a total energy capacity of 280 kWh, powered by four GEN 3 traction batteries, providing lasting power for demanding projects while supporting EMG / Gravity Media’s green initiatives.
To ensure efficient integration, the fleet department completed specific electric vehicle training provided by Volvo. Amy Stokes, head of eMobility at Volvo Trucks, said, “We are proud to support EMG / Gravity Media in this pioneering move towards sustainable broadcasting.”
