Miami-Dade TV upgrades playout with PlayBox Neo system

As part of a wider broadcast modernisation effort, Miami-Dade TV recently turned to PlayBox Neo to streamline playout of its live and pre-recorded programming
Miami-Dade TV (MDTV) is available 24/7 on YouTube, Comcast Channel 76 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99. With such a wide reach, the station requires a reliable playout system. For this, the PlayBox Neo system was selected for the upgrade.
The team at MDTV needed a solution that could integrate with existing infrastructure while also providing an intuitive interface. Shawn Hinchey, chief digital media service at Miami-Dade County, selected PlayBox Neo because of its key capabilities. “PlayBox Neo stood out because of its modular design, IP streaming support, scheduling flexibility and ease of use. It supports the kind of hybrid SDI/IP workflows we’re adopting and allows for remote operation, which has become increasingly important in our environment,” said Hinchey.
Brian Ross, president of Orlando-based Enlighten Digital, led the PlayBox Neo installation. Now, the workflow uses the AirBox Neo servers for playout and controls inputs and outputs from the Rohde & Schwarz router.
The PlayBox Neo setup includes master and backup AirBox Neo systems across eight channels, along with tools for graphics, scheduling, ingest and redundancy. Hinchey also noted the benefits of features like ListBox Neo for playlist creation and Live Ingest for recording. The whole system runs on the PlayBox Neo Suite – a platform that offers centralised control, monitoring and administration.
The success of the MDTV installation highlights PlayBox Neo’s cost-effective approach. By integrating smoothly with other systems and avoiding expensive maintenance fees, the solution offers a practical option for broadcasters.
