MainConcept and Veset enhance live TV with JPEG XS

The collaboration between MainConcept and Veset integrates technologies that enable broadcasters to deliver high-quality live TV using JPEG XS
MainConcept’s software development kit, JPEG XS SDK, has recently been integrated into Veset’s cloud playout platform, Veset Nimbus, to bring live TV with minimal latency. By combining MainConcept’s ability to process media files efficiently with video and audio codecs and Veset’s work in content distribution using cloud playout solutions, this partnership promises to integrate technologies that enhance viewing experiences.
JPEG XS, the video compression standard first released in 2019, is designed for professional media workflows such as live production, broadcast studios and video networks. Leveraging this ultra-low latency standard, MainConcept has developed the JPEG XS SDK to facilitate fast live video streaming.
The partnership between MainConcept and Veset aims to meet the market’s demand for new media compression technologies. Thomas Kramer, vice president of product management at MainConcept, commented, “There’s a growing demand for advanced compression technologies that enable efficient delivery of high-resolution and low-latency video in professional media workflows; JPEG XS is the perfect codec to meet those needs.”
By integrating the JPEG XS SDK into its cloud playout platform, Veset offers Nimbus users an efficient solution capable of handling both input and output over modern IP networks. The JPEG XS SDK is also compliant with SMPTE 2110 and VSF TR-07, ensuring reliable content delivery.
For users who need high-quality and fast streaming, such as sports and news broadcasting, JPEG XS is a useful solution that provides visually lossless quality alongside high bitrates (200Mbps+). Martins Magone, CTO at Veset, added, “We wanted to make sure Veset Nimbus users can take full advantage of the numerous benefits that JPEG XS offers so naturally we’re thrilled to partner with MainConcept to do exactly that.”
The future of video processing continues to evolve alongside MainConcept and Veset’s partnership. This is evident in developments like JPEG XS software and hardware processing recently being added to MainConcept’s Easy Video API (EVA) as part of the MainConcept Codec SDK 15.3 release, enabling EVA users to achieve optimal visual quality.
