AJA gear helps Toby Santos’ hybrid production workflow

Toby Santos, a live production director based in Los Angeles, has embraced a hybrid approach to work with AJA technology at the core

Technical and creative roles continue to blend, and with this comes the rapid evolution of workflows. For Toby Santos, this shift has meant rethinking how shows are built. With experience across news, sports, music and events, Santos now uses AJA’s Corvid 88 video/audio PCIe I/O card to manage his workflow.

In 2020, Santos built a live control room inside his home studio where he produced several different Viacom shows. “I needed a rock-solid I/O device that could handle multiple SDI feeds, integrate with vMix, stay in sync with no latency issues and provide a reliable output to my recorders,” Santos recalled. “Corvid 88 delivered that and more, which is why it’s now an integral part of my portable production flypacks.”

Whether working from his home studio or on-site, Santos uses decoders to convert signals to SDI and routes them through a Corvid 88. The card’s flexibility and stability give him reliable control over complex productions, making it the backbone of his workflow.

Since 2020, in-person productions have resumed, but Santos continues to rely on his home setup. “The lines are blurring, and having equipment like Corvid 88 in my toolkit makes it easier to stay ahead without ever sacrificing quality,” he explains.

Looking ahead, Santos is focused on blending new tools with trusted technology. “The key is balance. New workflows are exciting, but you still need gear that won’t let you down. AJA gives me that peace of mind,” Santos said, reflecting on the company’s ongoing commitment to simplifying livestreaming workflows.
