LG and Rakuten TV Launch New VOD Service
LG Electronics (LG) and Rakuten TV have announced the launch of “LG Movies & TV,” a new video-on-demand (VOD) service now available on LG TVs in the UK, Germany, Spain, and Italy. This app-based service offers users the ability to rent, purchase, and watch a wide range of films, from the latest blockbusters to timeless classics, enhancing the home entertainment experience without the need for a subscription.
Thanks to LG’s partnership with Rakuten TV, users can access over 6,000 titles across the four European markets. The platform features recent hits like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Fall Guy, and Dune: Part Two, delivering an immersive, cinema-quality experience at home.
Initially available on select 2022 LG TV models, the service will expand to all 2022, 2023, and 2024 LG TV models by the end of the year. The app can be easily accessed from the TV’s Home Screen, offering seamless integration for viewers.
The launch of “LG Movies & TV” is supported by the introduction of webOS Pay, a convenient new payment system for LG TV users. This feature allows users to make transactions quickly using just a single PIN tied to their LG account, simplifying purchases on the platform.
Chris Jo, Senior Vice President of LG Home Entertainment, emphasised LG’s commitment to enhancing its smart TV platform. “By investing over KRW 1 trillion (USD 740 million) by 2027, LG aims to further expand its webOS offerings and provide a richer home entertainment experience.”
Rakuten TV’s Chief Product Officer, Sidharth Jayant, added, “This collaboration reflects Rakuten TV’s dedication to bringing the best of global cinema into European homes, marking a new chapter in premium entertainment.”
