Sony launches of Crystal LED Capri

Sony is expanding its LED display family with new technology, which is making virtual production even more accessible

The latest Crystal LED models from Sony are designed to support projects – ranging from television to feature films – in a cost-effective way. The new Capri series expands Sony’s current selection of LEDs with the addition of the ZRD-VS25FB and ZRD-VS25FM.

Key features of this lineup include a wide colour gamut and anti-reflection. Additionally, the system’s compatibility with Sony’s existing virtual production technologies make it a practical choice for a range of projects.

High-quality imagery is necessary for virtual production. The Capri series combines high refresh rates to reduce scanline artefacts and a high brightness that helps accurately reproduce lifelike images.

Beyond their internal capabilities, the models can quickly and easily be assembled and dismantled. The Crystal LED’s modular nature also allows it to be set up in varying sizes and configurations, including stacked, hung, curved or oval installations.

Compatible with industry-standard controllers like Brompton’s Tessera and Megapixel’s Helios, Capri fits into existing workflows. As part of Sony’s broader virtual production ecosystem, Capri integrates with Sony’s Virtual Production Tool Set, offering features like colour calibration. This compatibility helps streamline previsualisation.

Sebastian Leske, head of business development at Sony Europe, summed up the launch. “We’ve broadened our lineup to offer more cost-conscious choices, which expand the market in support of high-quality virtual production at every level and ensure the growth of Sony’s distinctive virtual production ecosystem.”

The Capri series is expected to be available this winter.
