International French-language broadcaster TV5Monde has recently undertaken a complete overhaul of its main studio set. At the core of this redesign is Smode, a real-time compositing and media server platform. This modernisation forms part of a broader initiative to refresh the channel’s visual identity and news presentation.

Led by news director Philippe Antoine, TV5Monde has moved away from the traditional globe backdrop to focus instead on faces and landscapes in its graphics. Overall, this shift is designed to better connect with the network’s 60 million viewers across more than 200 countries.

Designed by Panoramic 7, the new set incorporates augmented reality and a fully reimagined visual architecture. The update has also provided an opportunity to experiment with colour palettes, the title sequence and on-air graphics.

Integrated directly into the channel’s nodal system, a Smode server now controls all studio screens, the central totem and augmented reality elements. Streamlining control in this way was not only a technical decision. “The aim of this redesign was also to improve the working environment and comfort for journalists and production teams,” explained Nicolas Renard, director of productions for TV5Monde.

Commenting on the partnership between Smode and TV5Monde, Francis Maes, CEO of Smode Tech, said, “This collaboration perfectly illustrates how real-time technologies can enhance editorial creativity while streamlining broadcast production.”
