Swift and Wowza deliver streaming to remote areas

With Swift’s remote delivery expertise and Wowza’s leading streaming technology, high-quality video reaches the world’s most remote locations

Swift has recently partnered with Wowza to bring high-quality streaming to the most bandwidth-constrained regions on Earth. As a leader in remote content delivery, Swift will use Wowza’s knowledge of video streaming infrastructure to broadcast in unreachable locations.

Using Wowza Streaming Engine at the heart of its platform, Swift has developed an edge-powered architecture that enables live and on-demand video streaming. Content can now be delivered even in places with less than 1 Mbps of bandwidth and no on-site IT support.

Operating in harsh environments, Swift needed a platform that could deliver critical video services with minimal latency, zero downtime and no reliance on the public internet. Traditional streaming platforms simply couldn’t handle the job.

Swift deployed over 150 localised Wowza Streaming Engine instances directly on-site. This Content Delivery Network (CDN) now enables predictive content caching, adaptive bitrate delivery and DVB-T integration, allowing content to reach thousands of concurrent users, even during peak loads.

Designed for reliability, the platform uses custom set-top boxes and one-touch broadcasting that make it easy for non-technical users. These features are further supported by ISO 27001-certified remote management for secure and consistent performance.

Beyond entertainment, this system delivers mental health resources directly to users through a partnership with Beyond Blue. It also offers tools such as chapel services and live family broadcasts to reduce isolation. With over 25,000 daily users, more than 3000 room deployments and 99.99% uptime, it supports offshore operations for clients including Chevron and Shell.

While most of the industry focuses on high-speed urban markets, Swift and Wowza are committed to content inclusion. “We’re not just streaming content. We’re delivering connection, mental health resources and community to places the internet forgot,” said Alex Gammelgard, VP of marketing at Wowza.
