TVM’s OB truck gets the full Grass Valley treatment

TVM upgrades its OB3 truck with a full refurbishment, integrating the Grass Valley Sirius 800 SDI Router for enhanced broadcast speed, control and efficiency

Grass Valley has announced that Television Mobiles Ltd. (TVM), an independent outside broadcast provider, has carried out a major upgrade of its mid-sized OB3 unit. With Grass Valley’s Sirius 800 SDI Router at its centre, this investment supports TVM’s continued focus on high-capacity SDI workflows for live sports and events.

Headquartered in Ireland, TVM delivers outside broadcast services across a broad production portfolio, including domestic coverage of GAA (hurling and Gaelic football), English Premier League football and major international events such as the Paris 2024 Olympics, where the company’s fleet supported the swimming coverage.

The OB3 refurbishment required a complete rebuild of the truck. Part of this upgrade involved integrating a modern SDI platform that would support existing operational workflows while fitting within the physical constraints of the unit. For this, the Sirius 800 SDI from Grass Valley was identified as the ideal solution.

Grass Valley and TVM worked together to finalise the layout of the OB truck and test the upgrade within a compressed delivery window. Despite the challenges, the refurbishment was a success. “Grass Valley delivered on schedule, and their support throughout the installation allowed us to get the truck back on the road in time for the start of the GAA Club Championship season for TG4,” says Bart Arnold, managing director at TVM.

Building on a long-standing partnership, TVM and Grass Valley continue to explore further potential collaborations, including future camera refreshes and multi-viewer systems for TVM’s fly pack configurations.
