VOYO teams up with Friend MTS to fight piracy

Piracy threatens streaming, but VOYO is fighting back with Friend MTS to protect quality content in Romania

Friend MTS has announced that VOYO, ProTV’s streaming platform in Romania, has partnered with the company to protect content against digital piracy. This collaboration aims to combat the threat against live sports, local content and Video On Demand (VOD).

Recently, VOYO won the broadcast rights in Romania for the English Premier League (EPL). This project shows VOYO’s continual plans for growth. Nonetheless, to support this trajectory, VOYO searched for a solution to protect the value of sports and media rights.

For this, VOYO chose Friend MTS’ global monitoring solutions. VOYO is now using watermarking technology that tags each stream with a unique ID, making it possible to track and stop illegal sharing in real time.

“We looked at a number of anti-piracy providers and Friend MTS stood out for its strong track record and deep expertise in securing high-value sports content,” said Vlad Stanilescu, digital director at ProTV, in charge of VOYO. “The decision to deploy Friend MTS underscores our commitment to use the most effective piracy mitigation measures.”

Shane McCarthy, CEO of Friend MTS, supported this sentiment. “Many forward-looking companies like VOYO are increasingly aware of the financial damage sports piracy inflicts on the industry and are recognising that a clear anti-piracy strategy is critical to securing the investments they are making into premium content.”
