Christie Mastering Gateway provides powerful, seamless, over-IP video distribution for broadcast and post-production workflows around the world

Purpose-built for broadcast, live event and post-production workflows, Christie Mastering Gateway is a powerful, all-in-one tool, distributing video in HD, 4K and 8K resolution via IP networks and over vast distances. Emerging as one of the industry’s most-advanced gateway products and changing the game for broadcast and production professionals, Mastering Gateway boasts zero frames of latency, truly transmitting content in real time.

Industry integration

Mastering Gateway supports more graphics and SMPTE video formats than any of its peers, meeting – and exceeding – industry standards for transmitting content. Compliant with ST 2110-20, 30 and 40, the processor also incorporates 12-bit colour depth, RGB 4:4:4 and high dynamic range, making it a key player within the post-production space, as well as for traditional broadcast.

“Broadcast has a similar workflow to post-production,” clarifies Kent Kerslake, sales director, broadcast and professional video services. “They don’t need RGB 4:4:4 like post-production but rather RGB 4:2:2 due to lower resolution requirements.”

Another crucial draw is Mastering Gateway’s scalability; its modular architecture adapts to each user’s needs, and it seamlessly works in concert with ‘most editorial and VFX software solutions’, according to Kerslake. “The modularity makes it a great plug-and-play solution for production rentals and on-location or remote shoots,” he adds. This means Mastering Gateway is also future-focused, reducing long-term costs (and fibre runs) and encouraging sustainable production practices.

User-first functionality

Like all technologies, it’s essential to have an intuitive user interface. Mastering Gateway delivers, giving users an on-screen menu – which displays what’s being both sent and received – and control via keyboard-video-mouse (KVM). The latter functionality claims an ultra-low latency of under a single frame’s delay, thus making remote control virtually indistinguishable from direct connection.

For those working in advance or across time zones, Mastering Gateway features a time-of-day patch scheduler that automates operations. Meanwhile, an X-Y control interface can handle source-to-destination transmissions manually.

Mastering Gateway includes a model for every common use case, each addressing differences in ‘image resolution, KVM, connectivity and security’ requirements, according to Kerslake.

With five models on the market, the product family suits diverse production pipelines and streamlines editorial workflows, offering an easy, affordable solution in a single, compact device. Encouraging its users to collaborate from anywhere in the world, Mastering Gateway follows the same vision as Christie’s own aim: to help customers create unforgettable visual experiences.
